There are many challenges with living on islands in the Pacific Ocean.

One challenge is having enough sustainable energy to cater to the tourism industry and local populations.

On San Cristobal Island, there has been a wind farm for many years, and it's proven to be an invaluable resource when it comes to achieving the goal of eliminating fossil fuel / diesel consumption in the islands.

Even concerns about the wind turbines potentially harming local birdlife have been largely put to rest, as monitoring has shown that not a single bird has been killed or seriously injured by the turbines.

You can see these wind turbines from town in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, and can get a closer view of them if you take a day trip up to the highlands and El Junco.

Recently, the turbines underwent some maintainence, but it seems local Galpaguenos don't like heights, so we had to bring in some mountain climbers to get the job done!
