Travel Insurance
We realize that nobody enjoys buying insurance. We also realize that nobody ever expects an emergency to happen when they travel.
But it does happen.
Galakiwi requires that all of our travelers be covered by a travel medical insurance policy.
You never know when a family member may take ill at home, or you may get injured while you are traveling. For a nominal cost, buying travel medical (and, optionally, cancellation insurance) will give you peace of mind and keep you covered.
What type of insurance do you need for the galapagos islands?
Travel Medical Insurance
Medical insurance including evacuation and repatriation coverage.
This means if you need to fly back home, the costs should be covered by your insurance. remember that facilities are very limited in the islands, so what may be considered a relatively minor injury at home could be a bigger issue in the Galapagos, needing you to be flown out of the islands.
Cancellation Travel Insurance
While medical insurance is mandatory, cancellation insurance is at your discretion.
However, bags get lost, flights get delayed or cancelled, and plans can change, so we strongly encourage everyone to have cancellation insurance coverage as well.
Ad additional type of cancellation insurance that has become popular in recent years is Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) insurance. This insurance essentially let's you cancel a trip for any reason, and receive the majority of your trip costs back.
Where to Buy Travel Insurance?
There are many providers of travel insurance out there. As our Galapagos land-based tours are quite active, and involve biking, hiking, kayaking, paddle-boarding, snorkeling and other activities, be sure that the insurance you purchase covers these activities. Some travel insurance providers that might have suitable, and affordable, plans include:
- Allianz Travel Insurance
- Insure My Trip
- Travelex
- Travel Guard by AIG
- World Nomads
There are many other providers out there, so shop around to find the best solution for your personal needs. If you have any questions about medical or cancellation insurance for your trip, contact Galakiwi at any time.
