Galakiwi had a private guide training session this past weekend with renowned guide trainer Dr. Sam Ham.
Sam has been training guides in the Galapagos for decades, but Galakiwi convinced him to visit San Cristobal Island for the very first time! The private session came ahead of a scheduled Galapagos Guide Training session being done in conjunction with the Galapagos National Park.
Talking about the concept of interpretive guiding, Sam shared some great insights and examples of how guides can create connections with travelers, and result in a richer experience that goes beyond simply passing on "the facts". It was an easy concept for our guides to get behind, as they're all passionate about the Galapagos and happy to learn about new ways to get our travelers to care about the Galapagos as much as we do. The Galapagos matters, and at Galakiwi we're a group of people who love the islands.
Passing on that passion to our travelers, in creative ways, is our gift to ensuring that the wonder that is the Galapagos Islands remains a wonder for future generations of travelers!
A big thanks to Sam, as well as Thomas O'Brien for making the journey out to see us and braving the rough seas on a public ferry! If you want to read more about our Galakiwi guide training session, check out our blog post.
