Easily the largest town in the islands, and closest to the main airport, means that hotels in Puerto Ayora are plentiful. Because of the many options, Galakiwi is constantly wandering around town to see what is new in this “big city” of the Galapagos. We like to mix it up and try different hotels as they become available, but to us, they still need to have plenty of charm, convenience and cleanliness to make the grade!

Unlike the other islands, the waterfront in Puerto Ayora has been largely developed with shops taking up prime real estate, so the waterfront hotel experience isn’t typical. This is where the side streets and back streets present plenty of surprises, with hidden gardens, pools and patios making your stay a comfortable one, or you can take a water taxi from the downtown area, or a taxi into the highlands to stay somewhere with a bit of isolation.
